Who We Are

iCan Dream Center (“iCan Dream Center,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a non-profit organization that connects youth to holistic, innovative special education services across southern Cook and Will counties in Illinois.

This Privacy Policy applies to information collected through our websites, including icandreamcenter.com and go.icandreamcenter.com, and through the forms, chat widget, and communication tools we make available there (collectively, the “Services”).

By using our Services or providing your information to us, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Services.

Information We Collect

We collect information that helps us serve scholars, families, partners, and donors. This may include:

Contact information
Your name, email address, mailing address, and mobile phone number when you submit a form, request information, register for a program or event, or opt in to communications.

Communication content
Messages you send us through our chat widget, contact forms, email, or text, and our responses to you.

Program and inquiry details
Information you choose to share about a scholar, family, referral, partnership, or donation so we can respond appropriately.

Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, along with the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help with spam detection. An anonymized string created from your email address (a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available on their website. After approval, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Technical and usage information
Device type, browser, IP address, and how you interact with our site, collected through cookies and similar technologies (see Cookies & Tracking below).

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Respond to your inquiries, referrals, and requests for information;
  • Provide, coordinate, and improve our programs and Services;
  • Send appointment reminders, program updates, and service-related messages you have requested;
  • Send marketing or informational messages where you have given consent;
  • Process and acknowledge donations and event registrations;
  • Maintain the security and proper functioning of our Services; and
  • Comply with legal, regulatory, and reporting obligations.

SMS / Text Messaging Program

Consent to receive text messages is never a condition of any service. You are never required to agree to receive texts in order to receive support, enroll, or submit a form.

If you opt in to receive text messages from iCan Dream Center — for example, through the chat widget on our website — you consent to receive SMS messages related to your inquiry, program participation, appointment reminders, and, where applicable, informational or promotional updates.

Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply.

Reply STOP at any time to opt out. Reply HELP for assistance. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

When you opt out by replying STOP, we will stop sending SMS messages to that number except for a single confirmation that you have been unsubscribed. You may opt back in at any time by contacting us or opting in again through our website.

Mobile Information & Non-Sharing

We treat your mobile phone number and SMS consent information with particular care.

No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Information sharing with subcontractors in support services, such as customer service, is permitted.

All other categories of information exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.

In short: the phone number you provide and your consent to receive text messages are never sold, rented, or shared with third parties or affiliates for their own marketing. We use that information only to communicate with you as described in this policy, and we share it only with the service providers who help us operate our text messaging program on our behalf.

Cookies & Tracking

Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to remember your preferences, understand how the site is used, and improve your experience. You can usually adjust your browser settings to refuse cookies or alert you when they are being sent; some parts of the site may not function properly without them.

Comment cookies
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies for your convenience. These cookies last for one year.

Login cookies
If you have an account and log in, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies (discarded when you close your browser). We also set cookies to save your login information and screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days; screen option cookies last for one year. Selecting “Remember Me” extends login persistence to two weeks. Logging out removes login cookies.

Article editing cookies
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie contains no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded Content from Other Websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g., videos, images, articles). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor had visited the other website directly. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content.

How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information. Apart from the mobile-information protections described above, we may share information only in these limited circumstances:

  • Service providers: Trusted vendors who perform services on our behalf — such as our messaging platform, email and CRM tools, hosting, spam detection, and customer support — and who are bound to use the information only to provide those services to us.
  • Legal and safety reasons: When required by law, subpoena, or legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of iCan Dream Center, our scholars, families, or the public.
  • With your direction: When you ask us to share information or otherwise consent to a specific disclosure.

We do not share, sell, rent, or lease your information — and never your mobile opt-in data — to third parties or affiliates for their own marketing or promotional use.

Visitor comments may also be checked through an automated spam detection service.

How Long We Retain Your Data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically.

For users that register on our website (if any), we store the personal information provided in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect the information we collect. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure; if you believe your interaction with us is no longer secure, please contact us right away.

Children’s Privacy

iCan Dream Center serves youth, but our website and online forms are intended for use by parents, guardians, educators, partners, and other adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under the age of 13 through our website without the consent of a parent or guardian.

Information about a scholar is provided to us by a parent, guardian, referring district, or authorized adult. If you believe a child has provided us personal information without appropriate consent, please contact us and we will take steps to remove it.

Your Rights & Choices

  • Access and correction: You may ask us to review or update the personal information we hold about you.
  • Opt out of texts: Reply STOP to any message, or contact us to be removed from SMS communications.
  • Opt out of email: Use the unsubscribe link in our emails or contact us.
  • Deletion: You may request that we delete personal information, subject to legal and recordkeeping obligations.
  • Data export: If you have an account or have left comments, you can request an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided.

To exercise any of these choices, reach us using the contact details below.

Third-Party Links

Our Services may link to websites or resources operated by others. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties, and we encourage you to review their privacy policies before sharing information with them.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Effective date” at the top of this page and post the updated version here. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
