That moment captures the purpose of Bridge to Independence Night.

Families navigating the transition from school to adulthood are often handed information from different agencies, institutions, and service providers. What they need is not simply another list of resources. They need a place where someone will listen to their goals, answer their questions, and help connect their young adult’s interests and abilities to meaningful next steps.

Bridge to Independence Night creates that place.

At iCan Dream Center, transition planning is person-centered. We begin with the individual—not with a predetermined destination. What does this young person want to do? What are their strengths? What support will they need? What education, training, or work experience could help them move toward greater independence?

The developing CNA pathway gave one family a possible answer to those questions. It offered a vision of career training, professional certification, employment, and the dignity that comes from contributing one’s skills to the community.

That is the difference between presenting families with options and helping them build pathways.

Through events such as Bridge to Independence Night, iCan Dream Center brings families into direct conversation with educators, workforce-development professionals, community partners, and other individuals who can help transform an interest into an actionable plan.

For students with disabilities, the path into adulthood is rarely one-size-fits-all. It may include college coursework, career and technical education, industry credentials, internships, employment preparation, or independent-living support. The most effective plan is the one built around the student’s goals, abilities, and vision for the future.

The mother and daughter who discovered the CNA pathway did not leave with every detail resolved. They left with something equally important: a direction.
