Supporting Our Interns Means Building a Stronger Community
You may see iCan Dream Center interns working at local businesses—greeting you, stocking shelves, clearing tables, washing hair, washing cars, or helping behind the scenes. These young people are learning, growing, and contributing every day.
All ourstudents have Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), and many have experienced trauma or systemic barriers that make this kind of opportunity even more transformative.
The Impact Goes Both Ways.
When individuals with disabilities are visible and included in the workforce, it enriches our entire community. It fosters empathy, reduces stigma, and creates a culture of belonging that benefits everyone—employees, customers, and neighbors alike. Inclusive workplaces are stronger, more dynamic, and more reflective of the world we all live in.
iCan Dream Center encourages the public to support interns by:
- Offering kind words and encouragement
- Demonstrating patience as students learn and grow
- Focusing on their strengths and contributions
- Including them in conversation and small acts of connection
- Be patient—learning takes time
This is how we build a more inclusive workforce. Not by lowering the bar—but by raising our level of support, understanding, and belief in what young people with disabilities can do.
Your support helps iCan Dream students build confidence, independence, and a sense of belonging. Thank you for helping make our town a place where every young person can dream—and thrive.
