iCan Dream Center at The Ranch
There’s a particular kind of joy that lives at iCan Dream Center. Sometimes it looks like a student mastering a new skill. Sometimes it sounds like laughter echoing across an internship site. And sometimes… it looks like a girl walking a donkey in a dress.
Yes, really.

One of our students recently had the unforgettable experience of leading a donkey at The Ranch during her internship placement, and the image perfectly captured something we believe deeply at iCDC: when students are truly seen, they begin to shine in ways that classrooms alone can’t always reveal.
As we approach the end of the school term and celebrate graduation season, we’ve been reflecting on the importance of meaningful vocational experiences. Recently, our partners at The Ranch took intentional time to recognize our students for leveling up in their skills, contributions, and growth. That mattered.
It mattered because many of our students have spent years being underestimated.
At iCan Dream Center, our niche is supporting emerging adults who have the ability for competitive employment with the right supports in place. For many of our students, that means they can successfully work on internship sites without needing constant 1:1 support. They thrive when expectations are high, environments are compassionate, and opportunities are real.
For others, like the students we placed at The Ranch, the journey is still unfolding. They are building foundational employment skills that many people take for granted:
- Following multiple-step directions
- Asking for clarification when tasks are unclear
- Understanding how long tasks take for time management
- Learning workplace communication and problem-solving
- Developing confidence through repetition and practice
These are not “small” skills. These are life-changing skills.
One of the greatest challenges for many neurodiverse learners is generalizing skills. A student may demonstrate a task beautifully in a classroom setting but struggle to apply it in a real-world environment. That’s why partnerships like The Ranch are so powerful. They give our students opportunities to practice, stretch, stumble safely, recover, and grow in authentic spaces.
And equally important? They celebrate them.
Not just productivity. Not just outcomes. The students themselves.
We are deeply grateful for vocational partners willing to create space for growth, dignity, patience, and possibility. The Ranch has offered our students meaningful work and meaningful belonging, and that combination is transformational.
As we look ahead, we would love to expand partnerships for students. Whether your organization can support independent interns or students still developing foundational work readiness skills, there is room to make an impact.
Because somewhere between the classroom and the workplace, confidence blooms.
Sometimes it even walks a donkey in a dress. 🐴💫
